Vital For St. Thomas … After a fine first half showing in this Under-12 "C" final in the Coiste Iomana Tournament in Loughrea on Monday, St. Thomas held out for a win. They were awarded a 21-yard free after four minutes and full-back Tony Headd slammed home a goal. In the ninth minute St. Thomas got another free and full-back Headd obliged again with a point. The first real attack by Fohenagh was defied by a great score from Kenneth Larkin. St. Thomas attacked again and Enda McGarry ended it with a great goal to leave St. Thomas leading by 2-1 to 0-0. But for some heroic defending by Sean Moclair they would have stretched their lead even further early in the second half. Fohenagh were at last rewarded when Paul Kennedy got a point after nine minutes of the second half. They picked up their game very much after this and a goal by John Devine brought them closer to St. Thomas after ten minutes of the second half. But they could not get through for the all-important goal. St. Thomas can thank in particular Tony Headd, Sean Fahey, David Quinn, Kevin Smyth, and Justin Flannery. Best for Fohenagh were Noel Higgins, Sean Moclair, Eric Lally and Tony Kirwin. St. Thomas: K. Larkin, S. Fahey, T. Headd, D. Quinn, K. Smith, D. Fitzgerald, M. Headd, J. Flannery, A. Rowland, O. Brady, E. McGarry. Fohenagh: N. Higgins, P. Leonard, T. Bleahen, M. Glynn, S. Moclair, E. Lally, P. Kennedy, T. Kirwin, P. Leonard, S. Devine, A. Madden. Referee: F. Benson (Loughrea).
