Local lore
Local lore says these. They are not newspaper records.
Local lore says · 1959
Ghost goal, 1959 semi-finalLocal lore says that in the 1959 semi-final against Loughrea a late shot vanished into the crowd pressed along the sideline. There were no nets, and the umpires waved it wide. Fohenagh won by a fraction and went on to win the final. Loughrea men still say the ball went in.

The free turf recruitmentLocal lore says players from neighbouring parishes slipped over to play for Fohenagh, and that committee men left trailers of hand-cut bog turf at their families' doors before winter, an unofficial salary.
Local lore says · 1950s
Sliotar in the thatchLocal lore says that in the 1950s a Sweeney clearance flew over the ditch and stuck in a cottage's thatch, and that the ball was left there for years as the marker of the Fohenagh hurling boundary.

Dressing room behind the hay cartLocal lore says there was no clubhouse, so players togged out at the crossroads or behind a hay kish, and that in bad weather a pub or a committee kitchen was the war room, with tactics chalked on the flagstones.
Local lore says · 1940s
The bicycle caravanLocal lore says that in the 1940s and early 1950s the squad and half the parish cycled up to thirty miles to Tuam or Loughrea, and that a player who could not ride home took the crossbar of a teammate's bike.
Local lore says · to 1971
Mass warning systemLocal lore says that under Rule 27, which lasted until 1971, word of a GAA vigilante in East Galway was whispered outside the chapel after Sunday Mass so players of soccer or rugby could move the field. Local lore also tells of an overcoat used to hide from the spies.

Chalked sliotar at duskLocal lore says that, with no floodlights, Fohenagh trained into the twilight before big games against Castlegar or Loughrea, using a sliotar smeared in white chalk.
