The final that waited a year

The 1943 North Board final waited until Sunday 28 May 1944[1]. Earlier that month the Tribune gave Ballygar a walk-over from Fohenagh in the junior hurling[2]. At Menlough, Cussane defeated Fohenagh in the 1943 final by 5-3 to 2-4[1]. The paper named the Barretts, Naughton and Glynn as Fohenagh's best, and Mr E. Bruen presented the cup on the field[1]. On the same afternoon St Patrick's of Ballymacward beat Gurteen by 4-2 to 1-2 in the 1944 championship[1].
