Ten points down, then the cup
Fohenagh drew the 1959 county final with Castlegar[1]. Castlegar led by ten points at half-time in the replay[1]. Fohenagh won 3-9 to 4-5, and Marty Glynn lifted the County Senior Cup[1]. The drawn final at Pearse Stadium finished Fohenagh 2-8, Castlegar 1-11[2]. The Connacht Tribune of 5 September called it "Draw Was Fitting Result To Thriller" and said Fohenagh and Castlegar must try again[2]. The paper named Tim Sweeney, Pat Joe Lally, Paddy Egan, Jer Sweeney and Tony O'Gorman[2]. The 1959 Galway senior final replay was at Kenny Park. Tim Sweeney scored 1-4 in a second-half rally, and the margin was a point[3]. The champions' caption that week named Tim Sweeney, Frank Madden, J. Moclair, P.J. Killalea, T. Moylett, M. Coen and M. Glynn[4].
