Frank Bleahan

On the Fohenagh side that won the county senior title, 1959

Summary

Frank Bleahan was part of the Fohenagh side that won the county senior hurling title for the first time in 1959, edging Castlegar by a point in the replay of the final (Tuam Herald, 19 September 1959, p.8)[1]. Reports of the day hailed Fohenagh as the new champions after Castlegar fell (Connacht Sentinel, 15 September 1959, p.4)[2]. Forty years on, the club honoured that championship team (Connacht Tribune, 10 September 1999, p.4)[3]. The Connacht Tribune of 7 November 1959 names Frank Bleahan as Fohenagh's goalkeeper and records the fine saves he brought off[4]. He was named as F. Bleahene in the 1959 Senior County Hurling Champions photo[4].
