Nicholas Murray

Won two county titles with Fohenagh

Summary

A History of Fohenagh says Fr. Nick Murray, from Ballymacward, won two county championships with Fohenagh and played many times for Galway[1]. The Connacht Sentinel of 23 June 1959 wrote that Nicholas Murray of Fohenagh showed such promise in training that he was in line for a place on the Galway side[1]. He was named at midfield on the Fohenagh side for the 1960 county final (Connacht Tribune and Tuam Herald)[2]. The book names him as N. Murray in the 1960 champions photograph[1]. The Connacht Tribune of 8 January 2010 remembered him among four priests on a Fohenagh county championship-winning side[3]. He was named as N. Murray in the 1960 champions photo, with a seminarian portrait (Fr. N Murray)[3]. The Galway City Tribune of 29 April 2016 recalls Fr. Nick Murray at midfield for Fohenagh in the county senior years of 1959 and 1960, and at midfield for Galway with Joe Salmon (Irish Newspaper Archives (irishnewspaperarchives.com), Galway City Tribune, 29 April 2016, p.111)[4].
