Local lore says

Mass warning system

Fohenagh

Local lore says that under Rule 27, which lasted until 1971, word of a GAA vigilante in East Galway was whispered outside the chapel after Sunday Mass so players of soccer or rugby could move the field. Local lore also tells of an overcoat used to hide from the spies.

Told as local lore. Not a newspaper record.
