Michael Barrett
Among Fohenagh's best in 1995
Summary
The Connacht Tribune of 17 November 2006, marking 25 years, printed Michael Barrett on its anniversary list of the teams that played the 1981 county final (Connacht Tribune, 17 November 2006, p.19)[1]. The match report leaves M. Barrett off the starting XV (Connacht Tribune, 20 November 1981, p.15)[2]. The Tuam Herald of 6 October 2001 printed Michael Barrett in the Fohenagh line for the 2001 reunion game in Fohenagh, beside a framed report of that county final of 20 years earlier (Tuam Herald, 6 October 2001, p.23)[3]. The Connacht Tribune of 10 June 1988 reported centre half back Michael Barrett landing a point from a 65 at Duggan Park at the start of the second quarter, and that was the end of Fohenagh scoring for the remainder of the first half, as Kiltormer beat Fohenagh 3-12 to 1-4, with M Barrett (0-1) on the team line, and found "merit in Fohenagh's mostly young side" and enough promise of a revival in the fortunes of a once-great club (Connacht Tribune, 10 June 1988, p.12)[4]. The Connacht Tribune of 18 August 1995 printed that Fohenagh were "best served by Mike Flood, Mike Barrett, Sean Keane and Philip Lohan" (Connacht Tribune, 18 August 1995, p.4)[5]. The Tuam Herald of 19 August 1995 named Mike Barrett among those who best served Fohenagh in the county junior first round against Ahascragh, the teams level at four points each at half-time before Ahascragh won 2-9 to 1-7[6]. The Connacht Tribune of 29 October 1993 printed M Barrett in the Fohenagh side that beat Castlegar and reached the county junior final (Connacht Tribune, 29 October 1993, p.13)[7]. The Connacht Tribune of 21 June 1996 printed Michael Barrett in the Fohenagh side that beat Ahascragh 1-9 to 1-7 in the county junior championship[8]. The Connacht Tribune of 6 December 1996 headed the team picture "VANQUISHED" and placed Mike Barrett in the back row after Fohenagh lost the county junior final to Sarsfields[9]. The Connacht Tribune of 8 August 1997 named Michael Barrett among the best for Fohenagh in the Castleblakeney Festival tournament final: "Noel Higgins in goal, Michael Barrett, Seamus Mockler, Cathal Lohan and the Leonard brothers Niall and Padraig in defence"[10]. The Connacht Tribune of 30 September 1994 names Michael Barrett in the youthful Fohenagh side with Noel Higgins, Damien Glynn, Colm Irwin and Michael Coen[11]. The Tuam Herald of 22 June 1996 reports Michael Barrett scoring the Fohenagh goal in the win over Ahascragh, 1-11 to 1-7[12]. A History of Fohenagh names Michael Barrett on the Fohenagh county junior hurling finalists of 1993[13].
