1980s–2000s
Mike Flood
Among Fohenagh's best in 1995
Summary
The Connacht Tribune of 17 November 2006 printed Michael Flood on its anniversary list of the teams that played the 1981 county final (Connacht Tribune, 17 November 2006, p.19)[1]. The match report leaves Michael Flood off the starting XV (Connacht Tribune, 20 November 1981, p.15)[2]. The Tuam Herald of 6 October 2001 printed Mike Flood in the Fohenagh line for the 2001 reunion game in Fohenagh, beside a framed report of that county final of 20 years earlier (Tuam Herald, 6 October 2001, p.23)[3]. The Connacht Tribune of 10 June 1988 printed M Flood in the Fohenagh team against Kiltormer, a side the report called mostly young, and wrote of enough promise to encourage their mentors towards a revival in the fortunes of a once-great club, in a game Kiltormer won 3-12 to 1-4 (Connacht Tribune, 10 June 1988, p.12)[4]. The Connacht Tribune of 18 August 1995 printed that Fohenagh were "best served by Mike Flood, Mike Barrett, Sean Keane and Philip Lohan" (Connacht Tribune, 18 August 1995, p.4)[5]. The Tuam Herald of 19 August 1995 named Mike Flood among those who best served Fohenagh, in the county junior first round against Ahascragh, the teams level at four points each at half-time before Ahascragh won 2-9 to 1-7[6]. The Connacht Tribune of 27 August 1993 printed that great displays by Gerry Madden, Jimmy and John Devine, Michael Flood and Gerry Burke crowned a fine win, as Fohenagh beat Ahascragh 2-9 to 2-5 in the replay of the Caltra Festival Tournament final (Connacht Tribune, 27 August 1993, p.4)[7].
Coaching
The Connacht Tribune of 10 March 1995 reported that the Fohenagh AGM elected Mike Flood among the managers of the junior teams for 1995, with Vincent Lyons, Fr J Naughton and Tom Noone (Connacht Tribune, 10 March 1995, p.6)[8]. The Connacht Tribune of 29 November 1996 named team manager Mike Flood with the young side that had beaten Kiltormer by six points and was about to play the county junior final against Sarsfields, and quoted him: "It would be fantastic for these young fellows if they were to make the break-through, as they are a great bunch of lads" (Connacht Tribune, 29 November 1996, p.19)[9]. Fohenagh lost that final to Sarsfields, 0-12 to 0-6 (Connacht Tribune, 6 December 1996, p.16)[10]. At the January 1998 AGM, outgoing chairman Colm Kirwan paid tribute to Michael Flood as the outgoing manager of the Junior team for his excellent work for the club, and Colm Kirwan was elected to succeed him (Connacht Tribune, 9 January 1998, p.7)[11].
