Hurling, 1950s–1960s
Jim Sweeney
Goalscorer in Fohenagh's 1960 county final
Summary
Jim Sweeney was in the front row of the 1960 Fohenagh side that won back-to-back Galway senior hurling titles (Galway City Tribune, 29 January 2021, p.68)[1]. The Tuam Herald names him as a goalscorer in that 1960 county final[2]. He was on the Fohenagh side for the 1959 replay against Castlegar, Fohenagh 3-9, Castlegar 4-5 (Connacht Tribune, 19 September 1959)[3]. The Connacht Tribune of 26 November 1960 wrote that Tim, John and Jim Sweeney were brothers, all senior county hurlers[3]. A History of Fohenagh prints J. Sweeney twice on the 1960 champions photograph, and Jim Sweeney is one of the two[4].
